Stefanos Tsitsipas’ mother Julia Apostoli may not be too thrilled about her son reuniting with Paula Badosa as she described the Spanish tennis player as “not a super confident person” before adding that “nobody asked my opinion” before the tennis couple reunited.
On May 5th, Badosa posted a written message on her Instagram Story, in which she announced that she and Tsitsipas decided to put an end to their love relationship that lasted a year. In the message, Badosa spoke about Tsitsipas with full respect and said they would remain on good terms
When Tsitsipas was asked about the split, he suggested that Badosa was the right person but that their relationship didn’t come at the right time.
And then a few days before the start of the French Open, Tsitsipas and Badosa were spotted driving around Monte Carlo together. In Paris, the two confirmed what many had thought – they reunited as a couple.
While the majority of tennis fans were happy to see the two back, Tsitsipas’ mother had some selected words when asked about the reunion.
A girl that is not a super confident person. She needs big support, to learn more things, experience life. The choice has been made. Nobody asked my opinion,” Julia Apostoli reportedly said, via The Daily Mail.
It should be noted that last year was extremely challenging for Badosa on the court due to a back injury that has recently been diagnosed as chronic. When revealing that news, the 26 year old Spaniard hinted that at best, she would be able to play only three to four more years.
And in some of his interviews from the past year, Tsitsipas acknowledged that he was trying his best to support his girlfriend Badosa.
What Tsitsipas and Badosa said after reuniting?
After confirming that they were back together, Tsitsipas said there were stories placed about him and Badosa that just weren’t true and that the real truth was that neither he nor Badosa did anything wrong that led to a split – but that rather combining tennis and love life was too much.
Also, Tsitsipas claimed that after spending some time away from Badosa, he realized how much she meant to him and that he still wanted to be with her.
We are together. I’m going to explain why some people create different stories about us,” Tsitsipas told reporters in Paris.
It’s not that I care, but I don’t think people should take it like that. Paula didn’t do anything wrong and neither did I. It was hard for us to be apart and I was also going through difficult times.
I would say that I didn’t take it very well either, because I felt the pressure of the tour, of my work. It seemed like a mountain to combine the two things (tennis and romantic life) and I made the decision to take a break.
After two or three weeks I realized that she is a person who has supported me a lot and, when she tried to talk to me again, I felt how intense the love we have for each other is.
When Badosa was asked about deciding to reunite with Tsitsipas, she said that the Greek already explained in detail what led to that decision.
Tsitsipas, Badosa were scheduled to play mixed doubles at the French Open
After getting back together, Tsitsipas and Badosa also signed up to play mixed doubles at Roland Garros. But due to several rain delays during the opening week of the tournament, Tsitsipas and Badosa mixed doubles match versus Ena Shibahara and Nathaniel Lammons was pushed back to Monday.
But since Tsitsipas already had a men’s doubles match with Petros Tsitsipas on Monday and also a singles quarterfinal versus Carlos Alcaraz on Tuesday, he decided to withdraw from the mixed doubles event. Later, Tsitsipas explained that Badosa understood the situation and said she would not have a problem if they skipped mixed doubles.
I’m still bummed out about it. I have to blame the weather in Paris because it has been an absolute disaster in terms of organization,” Tsitsipas said when addressing the mixed doubles withdrawal with Badosa.
I really didn’t expect that I would have to play two doubles in a single day, especially the day before a big match like the quarter-final that I get to play tomorrow. It’s a little bit too much for anyone and taking the decision to pull out of one of the draws was a good decision.
I’m happy that Paula understood, in fact she was the first person to suggest it a few days ago but I was still convinced that I can manage it and be OK to play in mixed doubles.
In the same interview, Tsitsipas said that he is certain there will be a chance for him and Badosa in the future to play mixed doubles at a Slam.
