Florida State University (FSU) hosted one of the nation’s top high school linebackers, Tavion Wallace, this past weekend for an official visit. Wallace, a five-star recruit from Houston, Texas, left Tallahassee with high praise for the Seminoles, describing the visit as one that lived up to high expectations.Wallace, a 6-foot-3, 230-pound powerhouse, is considered one of the premier defensive prospects in the 2025 recruiting class. His blend of size, speed, and football IQ has garnered offers from nearly every major program in the country, including Alabama, Georgia, Ohio State, and Clemson. However, Wallace’s recent trip to FSU has significantly bolstered the Seminoles’ standing in his recruitment.
A Welcoming Atmosphere Wallace arrived in Tallahassee on Friday evening and was immediately taken by the warm reception from the FSU coaching staff and players. From the moment I stepped off the plane, it felt like home, Wallace said. The coaches, the players, everyone was just so welcoming. They made me feel like I was already part of the family. Insight into the Program The weekend itinerary was packed with activities designed to showcase the university’s football program, academic opportunities, and campus life. Wallace toured the athletic facilities, including the state-of-the-art weight room and the recently renovated Doak Campbell Stadium.
He also had the chance to sit in on a team meeting and participate in position-specific drills with the linebackers’ coach, Randy Shannon. The facilities here are top-notch, Wallace noted. Everything you need to become a better player is here.

His experience and knowledge of the game are incredible.Building Relationships A significant portion of Wallace’s visit focused on building relationships with the coaching staff and current players. He spent considerable time with head coach Mike Norvell, who emphasized the program’s vision and how Wallace would fit into their defensive scheme. Coach Norvell is a great guy. He has a clear plan for this team and knows how to get the best out of his players, Wallace said. We talked about my role and how they see me making an impact on their defense. It was exciting to hear.
Wallace also bonded with several current players, including junior linebacker Kalen DeLoach and senior defensive end Jared Verse. These interactions provided Wallace with an inside look at the team dynamics and the camaraderie among the players. Talking to the guys who are already here was really helpful, Wallace explained. They told me about their experiences and why they chose FSU. It was clear that there’s a strong brotherhood here.
Academic and Personal Development Beyond football, Wallace was introduced to the academic support services available to FSU athletes. He met with academic advisors and toured the campus, including the College of Business, where he expressed interest in pursuing a degree.
Academics are important to me and my family, Wallace said. FSU has a great support system for athletes to succeed in the classroom. They really emphasize balancing academics with football, which is something my parents and I appreciate.
A Decision Looms As Tavion Wallace heads into his senior season at North Shore High School, his recruitment remains wide open. However, the official visit to Florida State has undoubtedly made a lasting impression on the young linebacker and his family.
FSU definitely lived up to my high expectations, Wallace concluded. “It was everything I hoped for and more. I’ll be taking some more visits this summer, but this one set a high bar.
